Please invite your friends it's a great place to meet up.Carrie Blount, the local Places of Welcome Facilitator wrote this about her visit:A great start to the weekend‘The sun was shining on Holy Trinity Church, Heath Town for the reopening of their Place of Welcome on Saturday morning. The lovely weather meant that the Place of Welcome could spill outside into the grounds of the church. Tables and chairs were set up outside as well as inside and the choice was yours where to sit. People were chatting and catching up outside, while children were free to run around and volunteers took your order from the menu and served you at your table.‘My husband and I really did receive a great welcome, people went out of their way to chat to us, and we felt it was a real treat for our tea and biscuits to be served to us! And, of course, this generous provision is completely free of charge and is for everyone, young and old – they even had activity bags to keep the little ones amused. Although we chatted outside for some time, we sat at table indoors and also had the pleasure of hearing some live music as the band rehearsed – it was a great start to the weekend!’
The Heath Town Lichgate War Memorial was built by public subscription in honour of 225 heroes of the parish who fell in the Great War 1914 - 1919. The lichgate is recorded as a Grade II listed building by Historic England. It stands at the entrance to Holy Trinity Churchyard.Nearly two years ago we launched an appeal to help with its restoration. Although progress has been slower than hoped much has already been done towards the renovation. City of Wolverhampton Council are overseeing the project and have drawn up a schedule of work. The structural engineer’s report and quotes for the work have been received. As well as the council the War Memorials Trust are committed to the project.Further funding is now being solicited to allow for the more major work now being proposed, with a view to starting hopefully around May 2021. Unfortunately Covid restrictions are causing problems with time schedules and staffing.Costs for the bigger renovation work, which include re-instating metal railings and grilles, renewing the roof, and adding drainage around the base, will be between £20 - 30,000, and depending on what funds can be raised may have to be done in stages, or not at all.How to contributeIf you would like to contribute to the renovation of this major war memorial (which was originally built by public subscription) you can donate using this link to Just Giving, or put a donation in an envelope marked "For the lich gate fund", and put it through the vicarage door. (Any cheques should be made payable to "PCC Holy Trinity Church Heath Town"). Any help will be much appreciated for this major community monument, which, with Heath Town Park, forms our local war memorial.
