After a break last year the Lichfield Diocesan Churchyard Awards were back for 2021. We were delighted to receive a Silver Award and a Nature Friendly Award for our churchyard here at Holy Trinity. The award was presented by the Bishop of Lichfield on 23rd October. The judges were clearly impressed by our churchyard, which, at 7 acres, is one of the largest in the diocese. They provided feedback on what we are doing well and where we could do better, in conclusion they wrote:'It was very encouraging to see the community involvement, such as a work party mowing and gardening on one of our visits. And considering the size of the challenge, what is being achieved is wonderful. Thank you all so much for your hard work. Your efforts and commitment are ensuring that this churchyard is a real sign of hope within the community and witness to an active church community. Thank you!'If you've not walked round the churchyard recently now is a good time to enjoy the autumn colour. If you'd like to help keep the churchyard looking its best please see the next Churchyard Gardening on our events page or get in touch.
For a report on the weekend see this news item from Lichfield Diocese.October is Black History Month. It is about celebrating the contributions and achievements of Black people in our community, bringing communities together and encouraging younger generations. Black History Month has been in the national (and global) calendar for many years, now we are celebrating it with events at Holy Trinity. On Saturday 23rd October from 12 to 4pm we have a special event in the church hall. Food will be shared between 12 and 1pm (see list at the back of church to sign up what you can bring), followed by inspiring speakers. Everyone of all ages is welcome. Then on Sunday 24th October The Revd Cassius Francis is our guest speaker at both the 9.30am and 11.15am services on the theme 'Why we still need to talk about race'.The full programme is attached to this page for download. These events are for everyone - please come along if you can and support one another.
