The Church of the Holy Angels, Hoar Cross

The Church of the Holy Angels has been a focus for Anglo-Catholic worship since its foundation in 1874. Built by the Hon. Emily Meynell Ingram as a memorial to her late husband, it sits on a wooded ridge next to Hoar Cross Hall, dominating the local countryside. Emily Meynell Ingram commissioned George Bodley to build the church in the style of the Catholic Revival.

Holy Angels is a Catholic Anglican Church under the pastoral and sacramental care of the Bishop of Oswestry. Christian folk gather together to seek, to teach and to uphold the Christian Gospel, to administer the Sacraments of the Church and to provide a pastoral and missionary presence in the rural community in East Staffordshire. Whilst Sunday Mass is in traditional language, our mission is very much 'modern catholic'. We are a community encountering Jesus through the Eucharist, scripture and prayer. From these firm foundations we seek to serve in the local community, those who form part of our worshipping community and those among whom we live.

Holy Angels is an amazing blend of the homely and the grand, the everyday and the highly elaborate. Our worship seeks to respond to Jesus who is Son of God and Son of Mary, Word of God and Word made Flesh. We hope that all those who join us for worship will find something of the beauty of holiness and an encounter with the Living God, as well as the friendship and love of a welcoming Christian community. As we are sent out from worship we believe that our lives can be one of service and meeting with Jesus in the streets of our neighbourhood, while also seeking Jesus with others.

Whether you are meeting with us at one of our masses and services, visiting us in person or online, may your life be touched by the love that comes to us through Jesus Christ.
