Churchyard Tidy-Up

A bright sunny Saturday afternoon created the ideal setting for our Spring Churchyard Tidy Up. The team spread out across the churchyard, and everyone was quickly into their stride.

A lot of ivy was cleared from around the Lychgate, the adjacent gas cupboard and underneath the hedge. The edges along the path down to the church entrance were strimmed and the resulting cuttings swept up and moved to the compost heap.

The quinquennial report highlighted the need to clear the ground level perimeter drainage system around the church. Lots of moss and debris has been removed and a great deal of foliage taken out from the walls – including the holly sapling identified in the report.

The area under the large Yew Tree, near the memorial garden, has also been cleared. Together with all the grass strimming and the removal of the ivy - which was invading the headstones - the whole churchyard already looks so much better.

Whilst it was a working party, there was plenty of time to enjoy the sunshine and chat to some of the others at the event. There was even time for a tea or coffee!

Like any outdoor space, there are always things to be done if you want to keep things under control. We really need to keep up regular maintenance so if you have 20 or 30 minutes to spare, please feel free to pop along at any time and help with some pruning, trimming or tidying.

A big thank you again to everyone who turned out to lend a hand. Our next tidy up will be in the Autumn, and we look forward to seeing you.
