All Saints Bisham Pew News: Sunday 23 November

Sunday 23 November – Christ the King

The annual cycle of the Church’s year now ends with the Feast of Christ the King. The year that begins with the hope of the coming Messiah ends with the proclamation of his universal sovereignty. The ascension of Christ has revealed him to be Lord of earth and heaven, and final judgement is one of his proper kingly purposes.

Jesus says, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.’ (Matthew 4:17)

Reading and Gospel

Our reading this week, from Luke 23: 33-43, is a testament to God’s mercy being available to all who turn to Jesus and focuses upon Jesus’ compassion and forgiveness.

It can be found in the New Testament on page 95 of your pew bibles.

Our Gospel reading from Colossians 1: 11-20 is on page 214 of the New Testament in your pew bibles.

“May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience”

We read that Jesus Christ is supreme over all creation. The reading culminates with the message of reconciliation, which is made possible by Christ’s blood on the cross.
