All Saints' Bisham Pew News: Sunday 25 January: Epiphany

Sunday 25 January: Epiphany

Our service will be led by Revd Carol Cooper with Revd Tom Venables preaching

The Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, celebrated on January 25th, honours one of the most remarkable transformations in Christian history. Paul’s story shows how a person can change completely when they meet Jesus; no one is beyond redemption.

Reading and Gospel

Our Old Testament reading is headed “an invitation to abundant life” and Isaiah asks that “everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;” Isaiah begs us all to “seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near.”

The reading is taken from Isaiah 55: 1-7.

This week’s Gospel reading is from John 4: 1-26. In this passage, Jesus encounters a Samaritan woman drawing water from a well. His words to her reflect the message we heard earlier in Isaiah … “those who drink of the water that I give them will never be thirsty”.

Isaiah proclaims the invitation whilst John reveals the fulfilment of this promise through Christ.
