All Saints' Bisham Pew News: Sunday 1 February: Epiphany - Presentation

Good morning everyone

Sunday 1 February: Epiphany 4 - Presentation

Our service will be led by Revd Carol Cooper with Revd Sam Follett preaching

The Epiphany season draws to a close with the Feast of the Presentation (Candlemas). The child who has been manifested to the magi at his birth is now recognized by Simeon and Anna, when he comes to be presented in the Temple according to the Law of Israel.

“ … my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for the glory to your people Israel.” Luke 2: 30-32

Reading and Gospel

Our Old Testament reading is taken from Exodus 15: 22-26. and can be followed on page 66 in our pew bibles. The Lord makes the bitter water sweet but first tests the loyalty and obedience of his people to his word.

In this week’s Gospel reading, we also hear Jesus calling for trust in his authority and compassion when he asks the man by the pool if he wants to be made well. The reading is from John 5: 1-15 and can be followed on page 103 of the New Testament in our pew bibles.

Both passages highlight the importance of not only listening to God’s call but then also responding positively.
