All Saints' Bisham Pew News: Sunday 10 May

Sunday 10 May: 6th Sunday of Easter

Our Service will be led by Revd Carol Cooper

The Sixth Sunday of Easter is part of the Eastertide season, which spans fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. We continue our Sermon Series exploring how ordinary followers are transformed by the living Christ.

Readings and Gospel

Our Readings and Gospel emphasise the importance of being open to God’s voice and receptive to His invitation to serve in whatever way He is asking us.

“Speak Lord for your servant is listening.”

Our first reading from 1 Samuel 3:1-10 starts on page 264 of the Old Testament in our pew bibles. Samuel mistakenly thinks he hears the voice of Eli the Priest, but it is in fact the Lord who is calling him.

The reading from Acts 13: 1-3 is on page 141 of the New Testament in our pew bibles. While worshipping the Lord and fasting, Barnabus and Saul are called by the Holy Spirit.

The Gospel reading for this week is from Luke 10: 38-42 which you will find on page 77 of the New Testament in our pew bibles. Jesus visits Martha and Mary. Martha is distracted by her many tasks whereas Mary sits at the Lord’s feet and listens to what he is saying.

1. Project Shine Update from Revd Graham Watts

"Thank you so much from The Lantern Church to all those who supported our Lantern Marathon Challenge over the last few weeks. It all finished last Saturday with a wonderful Marathon Family Fun Day with Charlie Bear at the Church. 15 different people or groups took on a "Marathon Challenge" of completing 26 challenging things and got sponsorship. Sponsorship is still coming in but it looks like around £16000 has been raised for Project Shine and its profile has certainly been raised around Marlow Bottom.

On a personal note, thank you to those who sponsored my 26-mile run. The hot weather made it tougher than I expected but, with amazing companions on different parts of the run to Henley and back again, I did complete it. Thank you from The Lantern for all your support."

2. Music at All Saints’ Marlow

10 May Choral Evensong 3.30pm

Choral Evensong is a one hour church service, following the words of the Book of Common Prayer. It is to be sung by the Senior Choir of All Saints’ Church Marlow. The music is by Dyson, Samuel Sebastian Wesley and Bach. All are welcome!

3. APCM 19 May 7.30pm

This year, the Annual Parochial Church Meeting will be held at St John the Baptist Church, Little Marlow. This is the Annual Meeting for the whole 4U Team and you are invited to come along to hear what's going on in our Parish.

4. Marlow 5 Road Race

Please note the Marlow 5 Road Race starts and finishes in Higginson Park this Sunday. The race starts at 9.30am and there is bound to be additional traffic and congestion which may affect your journey to Bisham.

5. Lighthouse Marlow

We are once again looking for volunteers to help at this year’s Lighthouse Marlow which will run from Monday 3rd – Friday 7th August between 09.00 – 16.00 at St Peter’s School.

We are particularly keen for Lighthouse Keepers & Age Group Leaders who supervise 10 children supported by our young volunteers (Lamplighters). These are great roles and key to ensuring Lighthouse runs smoothly.

If you are interested please register to help now at Lighthouse Marlow 2026 - SignMeUp
