Sunday 21 June: Third Sunday after Trinity
Our 9.30am service will be led by Revd Sam Follett
The Third Sunday after Trinity is an opportunity to reflect upon Christian living, humility, and active faith in daily life. Christians are encouraged to share God’s love, trust in God’s timing and remain faithful in adversity.
This week we continue our Sermon Series “Hope in the mess of life”:
Joseph spent about 11 years in Potiphar's household and at least 2 years in prison before Pharaoh called him to interpret dreams. It is whilst Joseph is in prison that he meets and helps Pharaoh’ chief cupbearer – who, somewhat belatedly, - introduces Joseph directly to Pharaoh. Wasted years? Joseph’s experiences during this time, a period of trial and preparation, prove crucial in shaping his eventual leadership role in Egypt.
Reading and Gospel
Our first reading is from Genesis 41:15-16,39- 43,53-56 which you will find on pages 40 and 41 of the Old Testament in our pew bibles.
Pharaoh quickly recognises that Joseph has the spirit of God in him which has made him both discerning and wise. Pharaoh “set him over all the land of Egypt” so that he could implement the plan that God has revealed through Pharaoh’s dream.
Joseph answered Pharaoh, “It is not I; God will give Pharaoh a favourable answer.” (verse 16)
Grain gathered and stored during seven years of plenty is then available to help people survive the seven years of famine - not just in Egypt, but in the wider world too.
The Gospel reading from John 6: 32-35 is on page 105 of the New Testament in our pew bibles.
Jesus makes a similar point to his disciples that Joseph made to Pharaoh about his own role in interpreting Pharaoh’s dream:
“It was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.” (verse 32)
In Genesis we read how God ensured that even during seven years of famine there was bread throughout the land. Now, in John 6, we learn how God provides much more than just bodily nourishment but spiritual nourishment and salvation too – which can only be found through a deep relationship with Jesus.
“Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (verse 35)

1. What are your three favourite Psalms?
Beginning on 26 July, we will be spending several weeks exploring the Book of Psalms in our worship and preaching. These ancient songs and prayers give voice to praise, trust, thanksgiving, lament, and hope—and they continue to speak powerfully into our lives today. As we prepare for this summer series, we'd love to hear from you. What are your three favourite Psalms?
Perhaps there is a Psalm that has encouraged you in a difficult season, shaped your prayer life, or simply contains words you return to time and again. We hope to include some of the Psalms that are especially meaningful to our church family.
Please submit your choices by midnight on Sunday 28 June 2026 using the link below:
Thank you for helping shape this summer's journey through the Psalms.
