Welcome to St. Peter’s Church, Bexhill on Sea
We are a Church of England Church whose services are open to everyone. We have a wonderful old building in the Bexhill Old Town (parking at Manor Barn Car Park!) with lots of interesting history and things to look at inside and out. Do come and see us for a service or get in touch at any time.
Our Sunday services are at 8am, 10am and 6pm. The 8 o’clock service is a said service of Holy Communion. It is quiet and reflective with a short talk and no music, lasting about forty minutes. The ten o’clock service is much livelier with hymns and singing by our superb choir. This is a eucharist (Holy Communion) including hymns or songs Lasting about an hour and a quarter, it includes a sermon. The Sunday evening service is a simple service of prayers, readings and songs. Our inspiring choir sings choral music which is reflective and uplifting.
There is also a second service on a Sunday at 10am in the Community Centre opposite the church. Known as TfG (Time for God) it is informal with prayers, songs, readings and a talk all illustrated with PowerPoint. Come and have a cup of coffee at the beginning and join us in this lively service.
Our weekday service is on Wednesdays at 10am. Like the Sunday 8 o’clock, it is a said service with a short talk and time to reflect and be still. Coffee afterwards in the Community Centre.
In addition to services, there are many other events at St. Peters including lunches, concerts, Bible study and coffee mornings. There are groups such as sewing and crafts and we are always on the look-out for new servers, bell ringers and choir members. Do get in touch if you are interested in any of these.
There has been a Christian community in Bexhill since 722 when the local King Offa gave land for a small Anglo Saxon church. When the Normans came in 1066 they built a larger church which was then extended over the following centuries into what it is today. Last year (2022) we celebrated 1250 years of Christian presence in Bexhill! We are still worshipping God in this wonderful place today.
Please get in touch if we can help you in any way on your journey of faith or at a special moment in your life ̶ e.g., Christenings, weddings and funerals.
We look forward to welcoming you to St. Peter’s soon!
