Getting here

The church of St Michael and All Angels, with its 120’ tower, illuminated at night, giving hope to many, is one of Eastbourne’s landmarks. Standing on top of the hill in Willingdon Road, it can be seen from almost every part of the town and from the train as it nears Eastbourne, as well as from the sea. The population of the parish is about 9,000.

The church building is almost one hundred years old, the centenary of the consecration of the completed church due to be celebrated in 2011. Over the past five years, the church has been reordered to create worship in the round with modern seating and an octagonal altar with a suspended cross and corona which can be illuminated.

We are a renewed, enthusiastic church family within the Catholic tradition with the Eucharist at the heart of our worship.

We aim to promote and develop prayer as the priority and key to renewal and spiritual growth. The Parish has a prayer chain for quickly passing urgent prayer intentions throughout the members.

We have a team of volunteers on duty at each service to ensure that all new people attending are welcomed. There is free tea and coffee every Sunday and Thursday after the main service to which everyone is invited.

There is a network of home groups, which meet fortnightly, all studying the same biblical teaching, directed by the incumbent and linking in with the Sunday teachings.

St Michael’s is involved in supporting PARCHE (Pastoral Action in Residential Care Homes for the Elderly) and we have two teams of people who take services once a month in four residential homes, sharing the Gospel, reading the Scriptures, talking to residents and praying with them.

We have a team of trained and authorised members who help with the Healing Ministry after the main Sunday and Thursday services.

For the last two years, we have held a Michaelmas Festival, to celebrate our patron saint, inviting the local community to a free fun day. Our local schools have been involved and we were encouraged by the good attendance and participation this year. The festival was followed by Back to Church Sunday.
