About Us

Welcome to St Peter’s Church, West Green. We are an inclusive Church of England parish close to the heart of Crawley. We aim to follow Jesus in loving God and loving others by offering prayer and care for all those who live in our parish and beyond.

We are a relatively small church but with a big heart as we seek to help people who live in challenging circumstances, both close to home and further afield. Our style of worship is traditionally Anglican celebrating the majesty and mystery of a loving God. It is therefore centred on the celebration of the Eucharist (also known as Holy Communion).

What we believe

Belief in God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit is at the heart of our faith. Christians believe that Jesus is God’s Son. Jesus reveals to us that God is our Father, and that God is available to us through the Holy Spirit.

Whilst this is something that none of us will ever fully understand, we are asked to believe and trust – this is what we mean by the term ‘faith’. It is similar to but not the same as knowledge but it is the knowledge of being known and loved and of loving in return.

The Christian faith is not a human invention. There are signs of God’s existence and handiwork in creation for anyone to read (Acts 14.15–17). But we believe in the way we do because God has come to seek us out and has made himself known to us in the person of Jesus.

Our faith formed by three strands, scripture (i.e. what is written and revealed to us in the Bible), tradition (i.e. what has been handed down to us by the church over the centuries since the time of Jesus and the apostles) and reason (i.e. what we have been able to interpret through God’s revelations to us over time and our own understanding given our intellect gifted to us by God).

Our creeds (from the Latin Credo meaning ‘I believe’) set out the basis of our faith and link us back to the early church. We regularly use three version of the creed; known as the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed.

We believe that God has given us sacraments (i.e. visible signs of God’s grace) to nurture and sustain us; the principal sacraments being baptism and the Eucharist (also known as Holy Communion, the Mass, or the Lord’s Supper) together with five more; Confirmation, Ordination, Reconciliation (also known as Confession and Absolution), Anointing of the Sick and Marriage.

Supporting Us / Giving

There are several ways to give to the Church and support us in our work as outlined below –

Standing Orders

Standing orders give the bank an instruction to pay an exact amount from your account to another account regularly. With a standing order, you’re in full control. You can start or stop them or change the payment amount whenever you want – just contact your bank.

For those wanting to set up a standing order every week/month/quarter, here are the details you need:

CAF Bank, Account Number: 0001351 Sort Code: 40-52-40

Account Name: St Peter’s Church, West Green

Regular Giving Envelopes

You will see some members of the church use envelopes to give regularly. If you want further details of this scheme please speak to the Treasurer. This method of giving means the Church has to process more cash which, as outlined above, is becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

Just visiting?

Please feel free to leave a cash or cheque donation in the donations plate. If you aren’t accustomed to carrying cash, most banking apps allow you to make one off payments. If you prefer to give in this way, you can use these bank account details
