Update from the Rector Regarding Service Changes

Several months ago the PCCs of our 4 benefice churches agreed changes in the pattern of services for the future. Due to covid restrictions we are only now in the position to press ahead. The new pattern will begin this February. The reason for the changes is that, like many churches across the C of E, we only have one priest and there aren’t the resources to fund more. In multi church benefices the priest spends his/her time driving from church to church on a Sunday without having the chance to stop and meet old and new parishioners before and after services. The previous pattern of ministry is unsustainable and was based upon a time when more clergy were available.

Of course, when changes happen, we can’t please everyone. However, we will maintain our Eucharistic tradition with the opportunity on 5th Sundays to offer something different.

The Changes

· There will be one monthly 8am said Communion service on the first Sunday of the month at SSPP.

· On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month there will be a 10.30am joint Communion service at St Luke’s and SSPP respectively.

· On the 2nd and 4th Sundays there will be a 9.30am Communion service at SSPP and an 11am Communion service at St Luke’s (as previously)

· There will be two evening prayer services, as previously, on 1st and 3rd Sundays at SSPP and St Luke’s respectively.

· On months with 5 Sundays the 5th Sunday will be a joint service at 10.30 at SSPP and an evening Communion at St Luke’s at 6pm.

· Lathbury – 1st Sunday Communion at 9.15am

· Moulsoe – 3rd Sunday Communion at 9.30am

These arrangements ensure more pastoral continuity between myself as the minister and all the churches.

The diary of services for February and March are in Pews News and there are hard copies at the back of the church. Please to stick them to your fridge door!
