On Tuesday 29th September we had the last in our online services of Compline for the time being. They started as soon as Lockdown began in March, first daily, then on weekdays, and recently just on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This pause from online Compline will last through October and November. We will resume it for Advent. As gradually we have had fewer Night Prayer Services the invitation has been for each of us to pray compline at home, using one of the three orders of service we have prayed with during lockdown, and perhaps lighting a candle to create a ‘sacred space’ in the living room or at the kitchen table. Another habit our on-line Compline services has fostered is the inclusion of music to helps us to focus, to breathe deeply, to form a point of transition from what has been preoccupying us to a time when we are more conscious of God’s presence. And, of course, for many of us 9pm now can only mean one thing - ‘compline time.’To pray compline at home, the lectionary readings can be found on the website.
