We have donated the first of our food collections to Ryedale Foodbank in Malton. The first donations were received during our Harvest Festival service in October. There is now a permanent Foodbank box in St Helens Church, and donations are taken into the Foodbank each week. If you would like to contribute, please leave your donation in the designated box inside the Church. The Foodbank box is emptied daily. St Helens church is open every day 9.00 am - 4.00 pm. Ryedale Community Foodbank needs: tinned meat, tea, tinned fish, cereals, UHT milk, porridge, UHT juice, hot chocolate squash, biscuits, pasta, chocolate, rice pudding, sweets, tinned custard, coffee, toiletries, cleaning products, detergents. To date, Ryedale Community Foodbank has provided food for 964 people 639 adults and 325 children, across Ryedale. As winter approaches, it is expected that demand for Foodbank services will increase. Please help.
On Sunday 3 June we held our Open Gardens fundraising event in Amotherby.Residents of the village came together to open their gardens to visitors, in aid of St Helens Restoration Fund. Gardeners worked tirelessly to be ready for the event. Many visitors came from all around our locality and as far away as Scarborough to enjoy the day.An additional attraction was the promise of cream tea served in the gardens of two venues in the village. People were not disappointed. Tables were set out in the gardens and each venue laid on a wonderful spread including freshly baked fluffy warm scones with jam and cream, and a mouthwatering array of delicious home made cakes. The weather held fine for most of the day, except for one heavy shower in the afternoon. Undaunted table cloths which became soaked through were whipped off put into the tumble drier and were back on the tables as the sun quickly returned, in time for further servings of tea and cake. There was also an opportunity to buy some of the lovely plants seen in the gardens, as gardeners had taken cuttings and brought them on for sale on the day.The event was a greatly enjoyed and has further helped our total towards restoration works for St Helens Church.A huge thank you to everyone who took part, for all the hard work and dedication in making this event such a success. Our next fundraising event will be held in early autumn and will be a bingo night. More information to follow
