About St John the Baptist, Alderford
St John's is one of the smaller churches in the Reepham and Wensum Valley Benefice, but it has a fascinating history.
Dating mainly from the 14th century, this Grade ll* listed church has several interesting features, including its medieval doorway, the remains of a former north aisle and a sundial above the porch.
Perhaps its greatest treasure is the beautiful Seven Sacrament font, with carvings depicting important moments in Christian life. Remarkably, traces of its original colour can still be seen.
St John's is a popular stopping point on the Ten Towers Trail, attracting visitors who enjoy exploring Norfolk's historic churches.
The churchyard also contains a Commonwealth War Grave, the resting place of RAF Sergeant Leslie Edward Edwards, who died aged 20 during the Second World War.
St John's belongs to the parish of Attlebridge with Alderford and remains a much-loved place for prayer and quiet reflection.
