St. Leonards is a small and friendly church high in the Chiltern Hills, near Wendover Woods. When services resume again after the virus emergency, the highlight of each month will be again our Breakfast service, on the fourth Sunday starting at 9 am with coffee and croissants in the Church Room, followed by a half-hour service in Church. Come and see!
However under the current circumstances we're doing our best to support the local community - see News for more information. You may also find the Diocese of Oxford's 'Advice and inspiration in uncertain times' of help in seeing what different church communities are doing throughout Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
A prayer of thanksgiving for Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh:
'God of our lives, we give thanks for the life of Prince Philip,
for his love of our country, and for his devotion to duty.
We entrust him now to your love and mercy, through our Redeemer Jesus Christ. Amen.'
Please also join this short reflection from Christ Church Cathedral.
The season of Lent culminated in Easter, and our meditation from Mandy Thursday to Easter Day (16 mins) sets out the passion of Christ in readings and music from around the parish.
This follows our Lent series of meditations and reflections:
- on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, our 'Meditation for Lent' (8 mins) was published on YouTube.
- Lent is known as a time of reflection and fasting, but right in the middle - on 14th March - we celebrated Mothering Sunday (4 mins).
- Sunday 28th March was not only when the clocks go forward: it was also Palm Sunday, when we celebrate Jesus's entry to Jerusalem (15 mins).
And not forgetting that Lent continues, there's a personal audio reflection recorded by Gavin Oldham, called 'Love at the Cutting Edge'.
These Lent reflections follow our Christmas online carol service (51 mins) which was prepared by/for the Hilltops and The Lee.
Meanwhile the churchyard continues to be open for private prayer, and the Church itself will be open from 11 am to 4 pm for private prayer on Good Friday.
Please use either 'A Church Near You' to find an online service, or visit the Oxford Diocese, or the Church of England website for more details. Our own short reading of Night Prayer, accompanied by Taize music, can be found here. You may also find the 'Psalm of Isolation' and 'You Say' helpful in these strange times.
Another resource which may be of interest is a short video with personal reflections on 'Love in Creation', again recorded by Gavin Oldham.
Meanwhile although our church building is not open at present, you are welcome to spend some time in private prayer in our churchyard: please walk past the church to find a quiet spot where you can sit in peace.
Finally, we were delighted to announce on 20 December that Revd. Chris Hayward will be joining us as vicar for the HillTop and The Lee parishes in Spring 2021 - please see the news item for more details.
God bless you, and we hope to see you at our monthly breakfast service once the virus emergency is over.
