The United Benefice of Stratfield Mortimer, Mortimer West End and Padworth is situated about ten miles south of Reading. Its aim is to further the mission of the Church in this area to the glory of God. There are four churches in the Benefice and two Church schools, St. Mary’s (VA) Juniors and St. John’s (Controlled) both in Mortimer. A daily Eucharist is offered at varying times and places and the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in all our churches (except St. Mary’s).
Vicar: The Reverend Paul Chaplin.
Associate Priest: The Reverend Derek Spears
Benefice Safeguarding Officers: Ms Sarah Theaker and Mrs Elizabeth Porter
St. Mary's is much-loved by the village. Its spire is an imposing landmark and many people enjoy the peace and tranquility of its churchyard. As well as regular services for St. Mary's School, including the termly School Eucharist, there are weddings, funerals, and baptisms. The Benefice Advent Procession and Carol Service are held at St. Mary's. In May, the traditional month of Mary, there is the annual St. Mary's Festival, when the Church really comes alive.
The Benefice Office is open from 9 am-12 noon Monday to Friday.
