About Us

St Michael's has stood, more or less, in its current form since the 14th century. It boasts a number of outstanding architectural features including its 70ft tower which can be seen from miles around. From the top of the tower you can see from the Thames Estuary and North Sea all the way into the heart of the City of London. St Michael's is truly a parish church servicing the small community of Fobbing from its foundation as a riverside stop on the way to London through to the present age as a village sandwiched between the river and ever expanding industry along the Thames.

Within the parish boundary is the new London Gateway Port. Easily seen from almost the entire parish this port boasts the largest cranes in Europe and can accommodate the largest container ships in the world. As a praying community it is a real reminder of how this tucked-away parish is connected through our faith and, history and present-age to the rest of the world.

The worshipping community at Fobbing is small but vibrant with a real commitment to the maintaining the pattern of Christian worship that has been at the heart of the community for over 600 years. With both a new port dominating the landscape and local economy, and the formation of the United Benefice of Corringham and Fobbing in more recent yearsn the parish looks forward to a bright future worshiping God and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.
