Getting here

St James is a joint Anglican/Methodist congregation. We share the building and social links with the catholic church of St Luke. We are warm and relaxed. It's our hope to be inclusive, that all will feel welcome and accepted, to find a place in which each can be themselves and in which to encounter God.  We range from those in their eighties to babes in arms, and come from all sorts of backgrounds and situations.

Children (and parents/carers of babies and toddlers) are invited to join our Children's Church on Sunday mornings.  We leave the main service after the confession and return in time for communion and to show everybody what we have been making or doing. We have a prayer time, a video of a bible story, action songs and crafts.  Once a month instead of Children's Church there is an all-age service at which everybody sits round tables instead of in rows, the feel is a lot less formal and adults and children all get to participate together.

See our website

Coffee and biscuits are served after the service on Sundays, and coffee and cake from 9.30 on Wednesday mornings before the communion service at 10am

For enquiries about baptisms, weddings and funerals please contact the administrator, Cheri Falase on 01279 431177

Members of the church are active with Harlow Foodbank, the Street Pastors and hold a monthly service at a local care home. We have a weekly coffee morning on Wednesdays to which all in the community are welcome to drop in.

The children of St James Church of England primary school come to the church for special services and it's always lovely to hear their enthusiastic singing. Entry to the church is flat, with no steps. Seating is moveable and can easily be rearranged for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There is a large car park, with parking next to the church door for those with more limited mobility. Modern language is used in the services and music is a mixture of traditional hymns along with some more recent ones.
