At the beginning of November the Church keeps All Saints and All Souls: we give thanks for the saints, and we remember those we love who have died. At St James we keep the two together in one evening service, and you are very welcome to come.
When
Sunday 1 November 2026 at 6.30pm, St James the Less, Hadleigh. It takes the place of our usual first-Sunday Evensong.
What to expect
A gentle service of readings, hymns and prayers. The names of those we remember are read aloud, with a short silence, and we entrust them to God’s love.
We then share Holy Communion. Christians believe that those who have died in Christ are alive with him, and that at the Communion table we are joined with them — one family of God, in heaven and on earth. Gluten-free wafers and a non-alcoholic alternative to wine are available. If you would rather receive a blessing, simply hold the red service book as you come to the rail. There will be a service sheet to guide you through.
Remembering someone by name
We will read the names of those whose funerals and interments have been at St James during the past year. If you would like someone else to be remembered, however long ago they died, write their name on the list at the back of church, or let us know:

Who it is for
Anyone who is grieving, whether the loss is recent or many years ago, and anyone who would like to give thanks for someone they have loved. You are welcome whether you come every week or have not been to church in years.
