Getting here

Sewards End is a small village of approximately 175 houses, two miles to the east of Saffron Walden. St. James’ is a daughter church of St. Mary’s, Saffron Walden, the building consisting of the church and an adjoining meeting room, the latter being the former village schoolroom, built in the mid-nineteenth century.

When St. James’ participated in the “Growing Healthy Churches” activity our strengths were acknowledged as being a very friendly and welcoming congregation, valuing children within our worship and church life and being capable of playing a central role in the village community.

We are involved in a number of community events including:

♦ a Harvest Supper,

♦ coffee mornings held in the village hall on four occasions each year,

♦ an annual parish walk,

♦ active participation in the annual village fete,

♦ annual open air service followed by barbecue in village hall, and

♦ partnering the Horticultural Society in the organization of an Open Gardens event for a different charity each year.

Our key challenge is to involve more children in regular activities at the church.
