This is a splendid occasion for us to get together to celebrate in words and music two of the great events in the Church's year when Jesus ascended into heaven and when God sent His Holy Spirit to infuse us with his fire.
The music contributed by the Mersea Island Choir will include " Lift up your heads , o ye gates " by William Mathias ; the Jubilate by John Sanders ; Tallis' " If ye love me , keep my commandments "; Psalms 47 and 104 ; Herbert Brewer's setting of the Canticles ; together with some splendid , but very inspiring and thoughtful congregational hymns .
