Holy Communion for the Third Sunday in Advent: celebrant the Revd Tola Badejo. Junior Church takes place at the same time in the hall.

First reading: James 5. 7 – 10
Gospel: Matthew 11. 2 –11

The early Christians believed that the Second Coming was both literal and imminent; that within their lifetimes, or at least in the near future, Christ would return in transformative glory. While their expectations were not fulfilled as they anticipated, they were right about the importance of waiting, which they understood as a practice of positive preparation for what is to come. This belief is foreshadowed in the life of John the Baptist, who was not merely waiting for the promised Messiah but actively preparing for him.

In keeping with this theme of waiting and preparation, Junior Church will be busy rehearsing their Nativity Play, to be performed on Sunday 21 December.
