Holy Communion for the fourth Sunday of Lent and Mothering Sunday: celebrant the Revd Adetola Badejo.

First reading: 1 Samuel 1: 20-28
Gospel: Luke 2: 33-35

Our readings this Sunday share a common image: a mother presenting her child at the temple. In 1 Samuel Hannah dedicates her son Samuel and offers him in service to God as a way of giving thanks for the birth of her child. In Luke's Gospel Mary presents Jesus at the temple - God in human form, who lived and died - and lives again - in service to others. These parallel stories of servant-sons draw in to focus and look forward to Jesus' ultimate act of service and sacrifice; giving his life on the cross, that we might be redeemed.
