Holy Communion for Pentecost: celebrant the Revd Adetola Badejo.

First reading: Acts 2: 1-21
Gospel: John 20: 19-23

Our readings for this Sunday tell us that wonderful things can happen when Christians gather together. When the Disciples were locked in a room out of fear of persecution, Jesus came and gave them comfort. At Pentecost, the Disciples were gathered in a house when the Holy Spirit came upon them and enabled them to speak in languages that could be understood by many from different nations. And the same Peter who had previously denied any knowledge of or relation to Jesus, stood up in front of a large crowd and was empowered to proclaim Jesus' identity as the Messiah.

Since Pentecost, Christians have been gathering together to worship, find comfort, encounter Jesus, and recieve courage to live out their faith. These verses tell us of the importance of Christian community and meeting to pray and worship. Jesus tells us "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there I am with them.” - Matt 18:20
