Communion with Anointing

Occurring

I first came across the idea of a Holy Week Communion service focussing upon reconciliation about 30 years ago. I thought then, What a really good idea. And I still think this! How do we make connections between our lives and what happened to Jesus? How do we express our shared sense of brokenness-made-whole that we find in Jesus? The result is this service on the Tuesday of Holy Week.

Common Worship communion (Hymns and sermon) with words that strongly express our desire for repentance and wholeness. An invitation to all to be anointed with blessed oil gives a physical focus to this. The sign of the cross is made in the blessed oil on both your forehead and your hands. You may come forward at this point or not. Its always a free choice. But I always find doing this together during Holy week very powerful and moving.

The service is in the Choir Stalls (beyond the Mediæval Rood Screen).
