Please join us for this special Choral Eucharist for Ash Wednesday which will include the imposition of ashes.

Please note that this service replaces our usual 5.30pm Evensong.

Ash Wednesday is the English name for the first day of Lent, stemming from the tradition of making the sign of the Cross, in ash, as a sign of penitence. Penitence takes a central place in the liturgy as a response to Scripture and preaching. The use of ash – a feature of this day in the Western church since at least the tenth century – is a powerful symbol of sorrow for our sins, a reminder of our frailty and, ultimately, our mortality

Palm Sunday

Venue
All Saints Kingston
Address
The Market Place Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1JP, United Kingdom

Our 9.30am service on Palm Sunday will begin outside with the Blessing of Palm Crosses.
This will take place on the riverside outside Fusebox/John Lewis which may be accessed via the sloped walkway and tunnel near TK Maxx.
Please meet us there at 9.30am. Service sheets will be given out in situ so no need to go to the church first.
We will then process along the river and up to church for the rest of the service.
The same prayers that are said outside will also be said in church for those who would find the procession difficult and those joining us via livestream.

Palm Sunday, celebrated one week before Easter Day, marks the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, an event that is recorded in all four Gospels. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, while the crowds waved palm branches and shouted "Hosanna!" (an exclamation of praise). To mark this, Palm Sunday is often celebrated with a procession through the streets near a cathedral or church, where congregations carry palm branches.
The palm crosses are then often burned to make ashes for the following year's Ash Wednesday service.

The service includes a dramatized reading of the passion narrative.
