Generations of parishioners have contributed their time, skills, and money - all voluntarily - to ensure that the church has continued to function as a viable building.
Significant recent improvements have included the installation of a new Rose Window in 1990 given by Richard Bowring of Lawkland Hall in memory of his wife, and major alterations in 2017 when a new kitchen was installed in the former Baptistry, opening up the nave arch to enable the stained glass Rose Window to be clearly visible. Alongside this a new arch was made to create a new room holding a toilet and storage cupboards. In late 2020 the PCC took the decision to replace the irreparable oil-fired boiler with a biomass (wood pellet) boiler.
Expenditure on upkeep is essential and ongoing, and with no external financial support churches are under threat of closure when the cost of keeping them open becomes too great.
Would it matter to you if the church were to close?
If your answer is ‘yes’ then please consider becoming a ‘Friend of Austwick Church’.
The future: How will the Friends help?
As a Friend of Austwick Church, you can play your part in ensuring the church’s future. The Friends of Austwick Church exists for the purpose of maintaining the church building. Friends contribute an annual subscription which resources a dedicated fund managed by the Parochial Church Council and reserved solely for the purpose of maintaining the church building. They may also contribute by fundraising in other ways, by running occasional events etc. Friends will be kept informed about developments at Austwick Church through an annual report and other communications throughout each year.
