Weekday Morning Prayer

A short service (about 20 minutes) of prayer, every morning (Monday to Friday). We sing parts of the service to 'plainchant,' simple chant that goes back to the earliest days of Christianity. There are readings from the Bible, and prayers for different aspects of our life together, or current local and world events. It is good to start the day with God.

'Low Mass' means a simple, said Eucharist - the blessing and sharing of bread and wine together. This service lasts around 25 minutes and includes readings from the Bible, prayers, and ends with us receiving communion together. It is peaceful and reflective. Afterwards all are welcome to head up to the hall for tea, coffee, biscuits, and some social time together.

This beautiful celebration of the Eucharist lasts around 30 minutes and is designed especially for families and young people. Children lead the reading, serving, and singing. There is an interactive short talk from the priest. All are welcome to come up the hall afterwards for juice, hot drinks, and biscuits. We do this on the second and third Sundays of the month. The usual pattern of services is as follows:

First Sunday of the month - Breakfast Praise (arrive from 9.00 am)
Second and Third Sundays - Family Mass
Fourth Sunday - we all join in together at the 10.45 am High Mass

Sunday High Mass

This is the main service of the week when we come together to worship God in all the beauty of our catholic tradition, with music from choir and organ, incense, and ritual. Please see the 'About Us' page for what to expect at this wonderful service. Refreshments are served afterwards in the hall.

Sunday Choral Evensong

This is the traditional service of Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer, with readings from the Bible, prayers, and a short talk from one of the church ministers. Most of the service is sung by the choir, with the congregation joining in prayerfully, and joining in with the hymns. This is the service Cathedrals are best-known for.

On special holy days Evensong concludes with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament - a time of prayer in the presence of Christ in the blessed bread of the Eucharist. It is very beautiful.

Tuesday Contemplative Mass

This is a short (c 20 minutes) and very simple celebration of the Eucharist, with few words and lots of space for prayer and contemplation. It is much-loved by members of our congregation as an opportunity for deeper prayerful connection with God. This is a good service to come along to especially if you're not used to the kind of worship that happens in our church.

Sunday Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion

A short celebration of the Eucharist using the words of the Book of Common Prayer, on the first Sunday of the month. This is the traditional, 'old language' service that generations of members of the Church of England have known and loved.

Breakfast Praise

This is a new Sunday gathering especially for families with young children. Arrive from 9.00 am for a free breakfast with coffee and hot chocolate, followed by relaxed and interactive worship and singing, and ending with fun craft activities. This is a great service to try if you're not used to church, or don't feel comfortable bringing young children to more traditional services (though we love to see and hear them at any service!)

On the second and third Sundays of the month we hold a beautiful Family Mass at 9.15 am, and on the fourth Sunday of the month we all come together at 10.45 am for the High Mass. Please see the weekly news sheet for details of services.
