Spy Wednesday

Welcome & Opening Prayer Today is Spy Wednesday when we remember that Jesus knew that he was being plotted against and going to be betrayed by one of His own disciples.

Let’s hear about this from Scripture John 13 v 1-2(NRSVA) Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him. & at his last meal with his disciples said in John 13v21 – 27(NRSVA) Very truly, I tell you, one of you will betray me.’ The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he was speaking. One of his disciples—the one whom Jesus loved—was reclining next to him; Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking. So while reclining next to Jesus, he asked him, ‘Lord, who is it?’ Jesus answered, ‘It is the one to whom I give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.’ So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot. After Judas received the piece of bread, Satan entered into him and Jesus said to him, ‘Do quickly what you are going to do.’ ‘Silence

Let us pray: Almighty Father, look with mercy upon us your creation, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was content to be betrayed, and given up into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; for we are all sinners in need of your mercy and forgiveness. Amen

Lords’ prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen
