The Season of Creation: A Time to Reflect, Give Thanks, and Take Action

The Season of Creation (1 September - 4 October) is a special time in the church calendar dedicated to God as the Creator and sustainer of all life. It is a period for churches and individuals to reflect on our role as stewards of the Earth, to give thanks for God’s provision, and to take meaningful action to care for the world He has entrusted to us.

During this season, many churches celebrate Harvest, expressing gratitude for the food that is grown and the abundance of the land. However, it is also a time to consider how our actions impact the environment and to renew our commitment to protecting God’s creation.

How Can You Get Involved?

- Join in Worship and Prayer: Participate in special services, prayers, and reflections focused on creation care. Pray for the renewal of the Earth, for those affected by environmental challenges, and for wisdom in making sustainable choices.

- Engage in Practical Action: Consider ways to make your church or home more environmentally friendly. This could include reducing waste, switching to sustainable energy sources, or planting a wildlife-friendly garden.

- Organise a Creation Walk: Spend time in nature, whether on your own or with others, to appreciate God’s creation. Use the time to reflect on how you can better care for the environment.

- Support Sustainable Food Choices: Harvest is a reminder of the importance of sustainable farming and food production. Try sourcing food locally, reducing food waste, or learning about Fairtrade products.

- Take Part in a Community or Church Eco Initiative: Get involved in a litter pick, tree planting, or conservation project. If your church has an Eco Group, find out what activities are planned during this season.

- Explore Creation Care Resources: A Rocha UK provides excellent materials to help individuals and churches engage with the Season of Creation in meaningful ways.

The Season of Creation is an opportunity not just to reflect, but to act. Let’s come together in worship, gratitude, and commitment to caring for our common home.
