All Souls Requiem Mass

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Peter's Berkhamsted
Address
High Street Berkhamsted, HP4 2DJ, United Kingdom

We gather to remember with thanksgiving all those whom we have loved but see no longer. Our Christian hope is that death is not the end. Everyone is welcome, whether or not you are a regular churchgoer.
There will be an opportunity for everyone to light a candle in memory of loved ones, and to pray. The choir will sing Duruflé's Requiem.

It is our tradition to remember those who have died by reading out their names during the service. If you would like to include the name of a loved one, there is a list inside St Peter's Church.
"Sing praise, then, for all who here sought and here found him,
whose journey is ended, whose perils are past;
they believed in the light; and its glory is round them,
where the clouds of earth’s sorrows are lifted at last."
- William Henry Draper (1916)

St Peter's Berkhamsted

St Peter's is Berkhamsted's parish church. We've been a centre of Christian worship here for over 800 years, and we today we continue our tradition of welcome for all. Together, we celebrate our faith that, whatever darkness there may be in the world or in our own lives, in God’s love we find a light that always shines through. We welcome old friends and newcomers, strangers and pilgrims.

The church is open throughout the day - you are welcome here to pray, to sit and contemplate or to explore the historic building.

Worship

Our main Sunday service is the 9:30am Sung Eucharist. There are also services through the week, and our choir sings a monthly service of Choral Evensong

It doesn't matter if you don't usually go to church - whether you are a regular worshipper, or exploring faith, you are welcome here – the doors are open for you.

Events

St Peter's also hosts regular concerts and public events. At the town's annual Festival of Light, the candlelit church welcomes thousands of visitors, and there's a varied programme of music throughout the year, including symphony orchestras, choral concerts, jazz and chamber recitals.

Families

At St Peter’s all people are welcome and have a place, from the very oldest to the very youngest. We welcome families with children, providing a safe space for fun, discovery and learning, including a Sunday School and the Little Fishes parent and toddler group. St Peter’s is also a breastfeeding-friendly church. For older children we have opportunities in our church choir, serving at the altar on Sundays, and on the bellringing team. We want all young people to participate in our worshipping community.

Safeguarding

The Parish of Great Berkhamsted is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops' guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. Our safeguarding policies and contact information are available on our website at www.stpetersberkhamsted.org.uk/safeguarding.

The Diocese of St.Albans’ safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
