Church of England Diocese of St.Albans Letchworth

St Mary the Virgin

Welcome to St Mary's, Letchworth Lane.

St Mary's is probably the oldest building in Letchworth and it lies at the heart of the original hamlet of Letchworth. Parts of this medieval church date back to the eleventh century. It is built on the site of an earlier church. It is also one of the smallest churches in the area. It is surrounded by a small but beautiful church yard, where there is also a Garden of Remembrance with a bench for those who want to sit quietly.

The church is open for worship each Wednesday and Sunday morning and we pray in the traditional language. Lots of the Garden City pioneers had a lifelong association with St Mary’s and are at eternal rest there. We also have a very faithful and welcoming congregation with long established family connections.

Come and join us in prayer and friendship.

Every Sunday morning we meet with the Risen Lord who gives himself to us in the words of Scripture and in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Our Sunday Mass is a joyful service in an Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Church of England. All are welcome to join us and experience the joy of an encounter with the living Christ.
