Hospitality is at the heart of the Christian faith
As our church building serves the congregation for worship and as a community building, we have planned to enhance the church space to include a much needed toilet, a tea-point, revitalise the welcome area to the left of the main door into the church, and finally, to fully glaze the Lady Chapel to become a usable room for small services, children’s groups and a variety of community groups. A new, lowered, limestone floor will mean step-free access from the main part of the church. By enclosing this area, we can reduce heating costs for use by small groups.
It will be possible to open or close the bi-fold doors to the Children’s Room and the Nave to enable two different rooms or one large room or left completely open for weddings and funerals etc.
Our aim is to make this space user-friendly whilst preserving and enhancing the structure and ambiance of this beautiful church.
Where we are so far
The total cost of the planned works is estimated at £400,000.
The good news is that the Westmill Sunday School Fund, which was established in 1991 from the proceeds of the sale of the old church school, is expected to pay around £185,000 of these costs.
In addition, around £50,000 has been raised by fund-raising in recent years, including an initial appeal in 2021.
A number of grant applications from charitable bodies have been made which has raised a further £15,000. This means that our remaining funding target is £150,000.
Making this vision a reality
Our church, like all churches, is entirely self-funded by the generosity of church members and visitors alike. We do not receive funding from the Church of England nor the Government. Some income is generated by occasional offices such as weddings and funerals.
As a member of our community, we would love your help to enable this once in a lifetime project and make this vision a reality.
