Getting here

A fine old Norfolk church.

With a population of just 219, Hoe is by far the smallest of the Benefice’s parishes numerically although geographically it covers as great an area as most. St Andrews Church is originally Saxon although rebuilt over the centuries. It is quite small, very simple, beautifully situated and entirely appropriate for our particular community.

The regular pattern of worship is Morning Prayer on the second Sunday and Holy Communion on the last Sunday, which is for the whole Benefice when the last Sunday is the fifth Sunday. With such a small population congregation numbers for regular services are not large, but very steady and loyal. We are fortunate in having an excellent and very keen organist. St Andrews uses the Book of Common Prayer for most of its Services.

Being so dispersed and having no shop, pub, or any recognisable centre, the Church is the sole visible focus of Parish existence which is very evident and works to our advantage at Christmas, Easter and Harvest Festival when we provide a social dimension and enjoy very good attendance.

Financially the Parish is in fair shape. We are benefitting from increasing amounts of covenanted and other regular giving, all of it Gift-Aided. The percentage of Parish Share we are able to provide is increasing every year.

The church is generally in good condition although following the Quinquennial Report we do have a programme of works to achieve. The churchyard is well cared for and has available space.
