Our Building
The Church is Grade 1 listed and is described by English Heritage as "A Church of outstanding importance"
The windows at St Mary’s Church in Stoke d’Abernon are a striking blend of history and artistry, reflecting centuries of craftsmanship and devotion. Many of the stained-glass panels depict biblical scenes and saints in rich, jewel-like colours, casting soft, shifting light across the interior. Some windows are Victorian restorations, while others preserve earlier medieval elements, offering a visual timeline of the church’s long past. Together, they create a peaceful, reflective atmosphere, drawing visitors’ attention upward and adding depth and beauty to the ancient stone setting.
Toilets are available in the near by Church Hall. This Hall is kept open during regular service times
Refreshments are available after the 10am service each week. We hold a Mondays@Mary's cafe each Monday 10.30 - midday in the hall - all welcome.
Music and Worship
The light ring of six bells at St Mary's (one of the lightest rings of six bells in the Guildford Diocese and the County of Surrey) underwent substantial refurbishment at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. Part of the renovation included the recasting of the three lightest bells. The ring retains one of the oldest bells in Surrey - the fifth bell was cast in around 1460 by a woman bellfounder, Johanna Sturdy of Croydon. The new third bell was given in memory of Betty Poxon, a member of the Parish.
Live concerts are held in Church generally once a month; up to date details are shown elsewhere on this site and on the St Mary's web site https://www.stmarysstokedabernon.org.uk
There is no charge for attending our concerts but there will be a retiring collection towards the cost of holding these events.
