The "The Bereavement Journey" course runs regularly at St Matthew's Church and the next course starts soon
This course usually suits folk who are at least 6 - 12 months post bereavement but everyone is different. Please ask if you are unsure. This course is open to anyone no matter which faith, if any. There is no pressure to become a Christian or adopt Christian beliefs. The seventh session is about faith questions but is optional.
Loss needs to be processed for our physical and mental health and wellbeing. Unresolved grief can also affect our attitudes, relationships and attainment. The Bereavement Journey® is a place to talk - 7 Sessions of films and discussion for anyone, whether grieving a death now, or wanting to explore a previous bereavement that may be unresolved. This course is for bereaved adults to do their own grief work. It is supported by a Participant Manual and facilitated by volunteers.

Topics include:

• Attachment, separation and loss
• The pain and responses of grief
• Anger and guilt
• Coping with others’ reactions
• Delayed and suppressed grief
• Adjusting to change
• Moving forward healthily

St Matthew’s is a growing and thriving church in the tradition of the Church of England. We provide a regular pattern of worship which brings together a wide range of ages, backgrounds and approaches to God. We aim to share the love of God with people in the parish and beyond in practical ways, while holding worship as our central purpose. We want to equip people to live faithful lives every day – not just coming to church on Sundays – and so we hold a number of groups through the week.

Ministry is increasingly shared among all members, lay and ordained, as we seek to identify how the Lord is calling people to use their God-given talents in different ways.

We are part of the Tolworth Hook & Surbiton Team Ministry.

St Matthew is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Southwark’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
