Over the weekend of 12th/13th September, St. Andrew’s Chaplaincy celebrated its fortieth birthday! At an afternoon tea on Saturday, Revd. Sara gave a talk and slide show looking at some of the worship, people and events that had played a part in its history. Revd. Roy Greenwood, the first chaplain, held services in the local Roman Catholic Church and over the course of time the Church has found its own home in the Port and bought a Chaplain’s House. Some of the original members of the congregation joined us sharing their stories including fund raising sponsored swims across the bay, Annual Retreats, fashion shows, House Groups and ‘Songs of Praise’ held on the beach.

The ladies in our Knitting and Stitching Group sold items for Church funds and had also made a special banner for the occasion.

Archdeacon David Waller preached at our Sunday Service, blessed the banner to celebrate 40 years and cut the all important cake!
