Woolsery Show 2022 (120th in its history) was a very successful day – the weather turned out to be on our side and after the initial wet was a bright cloudy day, and the ground dried out which made things easier. We followed the rota and were kept busy with a constant request for tea / coffee / squash and biscuits – with a result of £270.20 being collected by donations – giving £135.10 to each church. The colouring session was organised by Woolsery Youth Club who also provided the colouring sheets, colouring pens and lollipops as a thank-you when completed, which were well received. The hand prints for Youth Christian network climate conference were supplied and completed at the event and are being posted off to be added to others being put on display. The clear sides gave good cover and was so much more open than previous years, and the tent itself was much larger – thank you to who ever organised its setting up and layout, resulting in a good view of the arena. We wish to thank everyone who either provided refreshments or joined the rota (sorry will not list names for fear of omitting someone) and to all who came and supported us, the Churches are always there for you and it was good to meet up.
As part of the Church of England’s social media campaign #StainedGlassSummer we’d like you to visit us at All Hallows Church. The Church is open from 9am to 5pm most days and on Wednesdays we host a coffee morning from10am – noon. The east window, above the altar, was paid for by a Mrs Holderness in February 1925 in memory of her husband. It is a three light window and is a truly beautiful representation of the crucifixion. The centre light is of the Saviour on the cross, with Mary Magdalene kneeling at the base of the cross. The light on the left-hand side of the window depicts the Virgin Mary, the Holy Mother, whilst that on the right shows the apostle St John. The medallions and scroll work show the leaves and grapes of the vine. In dedication, the inscription at the foot of the window reads “To the glory of God, and in memory of the Reverend William Holderness, vicar of this parish from 1869 to 1884, Elizabeth Jane, his second wife, and Katherine Howard (Heathcote) and William Harold, their Children”.
