Dear Friends,

As we begin a new month we also begin a new church season: Creationtide, during which we are encouraged to celebrate the gift of God's Creation, recognising our common dependency with all other created things on God's sustaining life. It's a time to reflect on the beauty and fragility of the natural world and to learn how we extend compassion to all living things in the way we live. I have produced a liturgy for using at home which will be usable all this month and focuses on prayers for creation.

Currently we hold Pakistan in our prayers as the flooding after their devastating floods. The DEC has launched an appeal to support aid work there which you may like to contribute to.This week those who will be ordained Deacon in the Diocese will be on retreat at Lee Abbey. Please hold them in your prayers.

I am sorry to pass on the news that the Revd Francis Coles (former vicar here) died very recently. There will be a small family funeral and later a Memorial Service on 20th October at 2pm at the Cathedral. His sister has asked me to pass on this to anyone who remembers him and would be grateful to know if you intend to attend. I can pass on her contact details if you need them. We hold Revd Francis in our prayers with thanksgiving for his long ministry.

God bless

Samantha
