About Us

Our friendly PCC and congregation will give you a warm welcome in our amazing William Butterfield church, rebuilt in 1849-52 AD under the patronage of the Bastard family of Kitley Estate. Butterfield's decor gives an ancient but beautiful air to the interior with many Butterfield motifs repeated in later churches and chapels such as All Saints, Margaret Street, London and St Mary's Church, Beech Hill, Berkshire. Our acoustics are much admired and musicians far and wide travel here to play music old and new. Local choirs also enjoy rehearsals and performing here, raising hundreds of pounds for various charities.

Sir John Betjeman (Poet Laureate from 1972) remarked that St Bartholomew's was 'the most amazing church' in south Devon.

Like many rural congregations we are struggling to maintain a viable Christian presence in our locality, but are showing early signs of renewal and growth.

Our worship is Eucharist centred according to Common Worship with a fortnightly 1662 BCP.

We also host a monthly after school Messy Church on a third Wednesday during term time.
