About Erlestoke Church
Erlestoke Church was built in 1880 after the old Church of Saint James had been demolished. This was so that the local landowner could have an uninterrupted view from his house! Today that house forms part of the HM Prison Erlestoke complex, which falls within the parish boundaries.
There is a regular pattern of three Sunday services a month, together with occasional mid-week Eucharists for special occasions. On the 1st Sunday of the month there is a Common Worship Communion service, and on the 2nd Sunday there is informal Family Worship. On 3rd Sundays there is BCP Evensong, supported by the very able choir of Edington Priory Church.
Erlestoke is known for its warm welcome, its Children's Film Nights and Swimming, and its many events which bring the small village of Erlestoke together.
The recently re-ordered church has won an award for its design, and it is at the centre of village life with bookswaps, Council meetings and other events regularly taking place there.
