About Us

St Matthew's Church is a welcoming and friendly community located in the heart of Borstal village. We strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels at home, regardless of their background or beliefs.

Our main service of worship takes place every Sunday morning at 10:30. Children are always welcome to join us, and we encourage them to feel free to move in and out of the service as they wish, ensuring that families feel comfortable and included at all times. Music is an important part of our worship at St Matthew's. Our organist provides music for most of our services, and we enjoy singing a mix of traditional hymns alongside some more modern selections, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for everyone.

Our worship is best described as 'relaxed Common Worship', offering a blend of structure and informality that suits a wide range of worshippers. We take a contemplative and liberal approach to theology, recognising that we do not have all the answers but are committed to seeking God's truth together as a community.

St Matthew's Church has a strong heart for social justice. We actively support both local and national charities, working to make a positive difference in our wider community. We are proud to be a member of the Inclusive Church network, demonstrating our commitment to welcoming all people.

We are dedicated to ensuring that our church is accessible to everyone. Our facilities include fully accessible disabled toilets, and our communion rail has level access, allowing all worshippers to participate fully in our services.
