A diverse, friendly, inclusive congregation, we welcome all who desire to love God and their neighbour whatever their background. Our main regular service is the Sunday Family Eucharist, 9.30 a.m. - traditional in structure, but relaxed and with a variety of music. Our focus is on the sharing of Communion in prayer and song, exploration of Scripture, fellowship in church, service and witness to the world.
Our church building is large and beautiful - a surprise to those who know it only from the outside - used throughout the week by different community groups: Pre-School, Textile Arts, Indian classical dance, Tae-Kwando, karate, 2 local bands, Traidcraft stall. Designed by Sir Ninian Comper in partnership with William Bucknall at the beginning of the 20th century, the structure needs major renovation, and the building is on the 'Heritage at Risk' register. The first two phases of this work (repairs to the East end, buttresses, and south aisle roof and brickwork) have been completed, with funding from English Heritage (now Historic England). Phase 3, just starting, will see restoration of north side brickwork, buttresses and roof, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. We seek to make the building more flexible for greater community use, while maintaining the function of sacred space and preserving the distinctive quality of the architecture, which is appreciated and valued by all users.
