I am not obsessed with sheep, even though I preached on them last Sunday. However, farming has crept back into my thoughts this week, having read about the latest series of Clarkson’s Farm. If you’ve never seen it, I thoroughly recommend it, whatever you might think of Mr Clarkson. In an interview, he describes his joy that in this programme (unlike Top Gear and The Grand Tour) he isn’t having to pretend to be someone else. “It is effortless - we are just ourselves. We get up and we just have to be ourselves, which is incredibly relaxing.” He goes on to say “Make no mistake, farming is NOT effortless .” Clarkson is more than happy to have his own (often paltry) efforts exposed to ridicule, to highlight what a difficult, arduous, back-breaking way of life farming is, with often meagre rewards. I wonder how often I put on an act, play a role, pretend to be someone else in my life? How often is it the real me? I put these thoughts together with Rev Keir’s sermon last Sunday, which was exploring that passage of John 15 that starts “I am the true vine Rev Keir explained that there are a number of things that can inhibit us from flourishing as followers of Christ, including an over-emphasis on religious practices. This could mean we lose the Word in all the words. It is time, I have decided, to be myself. To be a normal, sinful, imperfect disciple, with so much to learn. It will be so much more relaxing. And I think I could be good at it. On Sunday 28 April St Peter’s Maxey hosted the Choir of Stamford Endowed School. It was lovely to welcome them to the church and to enjoy their contribution to our worship. The choir sang to a very high standard including Vaughan Williams setting of ‘O Taste and See’.

Messy Church Our theme on Sunday is Joshua. Messy Church is multi-generational and welcomes all - parents, carers, grandparents, aunts and uncles - and of course - CHILDREN!Driving between Glinton and Peakirk this morning - a swallow was sitting on a wire.
