About Us
A note from Julia and Bob
We're Julia and Bob, and together we serve as Rectors across all six churches of the Benefice of Merriott — Merriott, Hinton St George, Dinnington, Lopen, Haselbury Plucknett and North Perrott. It's a privilege we don't take lightly. Six villages, six church buildings (some many centuries old), and one shared calling: to love and serve our communities, whoever you are and wherever you're starting from.
Haselbury Plucknett and North Perrott are not officially part of the benefice (because the official process of changing a benefice lasts for years!) That is why they are found separately on this website. Effectively, all 6 churches work together, with Julia and Bob Hicks as Rectors and Izzy Welsh as our Administrator.
Each of our churches and communities has their own character — some quieter and more traditional, others lively and informal — and we love that difference. Alongside us, a wonderful team of churchwardens, PCC members, and volunteers in every parish keep church life running, from services and pastoral care to coffee mornings and churchyard upkeep.
Worship, Woven Through the Week
Our services aren't confined to Sunday mornings. Across the benefice, you'll find worship happening throughout the week — from said Communion to all-age family services, quiet midweek prayer to joyful praise services. Whatever day suits you, and whatever style speaks to you, there's likely something in the benefice that will feel like home.
More Than Church, We are a Community
Being part of our church family reaches well beyond services. Across our six villages, we run coffee mornings, a toddler group, a choir, work parties, and community events throughout the year — many open to everyone, whatever your faith or background. We also give back together, supporting local and national charities, because caring for our neighbours — near and far — is at the very heart of who we are.
Every Parish is Unique
You'll find more about each church, its history, and its services on their individual pages. Additionally, one of our churches has their own website where you can find more information:
- St Martins Church, North Perrott - www.northperrottchurch.co.uk
But together, we are one benefice family. Whether you belong to one of our churches, several, or none at all, you're always welcome to explore what we offer — services, events, and a community that's glad to have you, wherever you're starting from.
Wherever you are in the benefice, and however you'd like to connect, we'd love to hear from you.
With love and prayers,
Julia and Bob
