About Us

For 30 years or so St John the Baptist has been one of six churches which made up the Somerleyton Benefice.  This is shortly to change; Lound is to be taken out of the Somerleyton group and will be linked with St. Mary the Virgin in Hemsby, the only other petitioning church in the Archdeaconry, which shares and wishes to retain and nurture the Anglo-Catholic ethos.  Lound is firmly within that Anglo-Catholic tradition; we are a Forward in Faith and Society parish under the episcopal oversight of the Bishop of Richborough.

Built mainly of flint and with a typically East Anglian round tower, the wonderful interior was designed by Sir Ninian Comper, and was described by John Betjeman as the "golden church".  Have a look on our own website (www.loundchurch.uk ) for full details.

The church is open every day from 9am to 6pm or earlier dusk.
