Wilby was delighted to have 2 cyclists taking part in the 40th anniversary ride this year. Hilary and Julie cycled to 7 churches, ending at the 8th in Wilby and raised an amazing £405 (to date) for the charity & church. All Saints has been fortunate to have been a recipient of grants for our church roof which this fundraising activity funds, in order to support the fabric of church buildings in Norfolk. With a watertight roof, All Saints can continue to improve its service to the local and wider communities.
On Sunday 9th July a group from the Quidenham Benefice met at Banham to board a comfortable minibus for our journey to St Julian's Church in Norwich. We were taken the scenic route which was a pleasant change from the A11.Some of the group enjoyed a short talk outside The Dragon House, by Heather who is a guide there, before all enjoying the beautifully presented garden festival at the church and in the gardens. This was followed by a cream tea and then a service of Songs of Praise.
The chancel tiles were removed in June to reveal an 'interesting' sight causing the architect, engineer and contractor some head scratching moments, as the true scale of problems with common and principal rafters was laid bare. Thankfully the professional team was able to produce an effective solution whilst reducing the financial impact of the extra work required.A recent report from the architect provides this statement about the work: "....the decisions taken have been carefully considered, trialled, and have significantly reduced the loss of historic fabric while strengthening the roof in providing longevity and sustainably to the repairs." The newly rebuilt buttress is almost complete and looks magnificent.
We were pleased to welcome the Browning Society of Ringers to church on Monday afternoon. In glorious sunshine they rang the bells, whilst our own bell chimers observed from the nave.
