We are delighted to be celebrating Mothering Sunday this year with two special services across our benefice. Whether you join us at Edgefield Church or at Plumstead Church, both services begin at 10:30am, and you can expect a warm welcome and a service designed to bring the whole community together.

This is a day when we think beyond simply 'mothers' and celebrate 'mothering' in all its forms. It's about showing appreciation for all who care for others—whether that's mums, grandmas, aunties, godparents, teachers, or friends. We will be giving thanks for the special people who nurture and guide our children and young people, and for the many different kinds of families we represent. Children are especially welcome at both services, and we hope families will come along to share in this joyful and inclusive celebration as we honour the special mother-figures in our lives.

Baconsthorpe: St Mary

According to the Doomsday Book of 1086 there was a church in Baconsthorpe. The current Church dates from the 14th century and is made of flint and stone. It is in good order and was completely restored in the late 19th century. It can seat over 200. There is an open area at the back of the church with a children’s play area and a table for general use, chairs may be placed there when required. Visitors greatly appreciate the Easter Sepulchre and the memorial to the Heydon’s who built Baconsthorpe Castle.
